Raised Deck and Platform Construction in Winnipeg

A raised deck is a structure before it is a surface. In Winnipeg, the part you never see decides how long it lasts.

Built From the Footings Up, for Manitoba Ground

Winnipeg ground moves more than most. Deep frost, heavy clay, and a long freeze that reaches well past the depth most homeowners expect. We set footings below the frost line, size the frame to carry full Manitoba snow load, and flash the ledger properly where the deck meets your house. That connection is where water gets in, and water against sheathing is how a deck quietly rots a wall.

At Genesis Interlocking, we have been building decks and outdoor structures in Winnipeg and the surrounding suburbs since 2014, with dedicated carpentry capability since 2021. Every deck starts with footings set below the frost line, proper ledger and flashing detail, and a structure framed to carry real Manitoba snow load. The finish you walk on is only as good as the framing beneath it.

Height changes everything else too. Once a walking surface sits more than two feet above grade, code requires guards, and the stair run has to be laid out properly rather than squeezed in at the end. On a bi-level or a walkout, the deck is also the main door to the yard, so the landing, the stairs and the grade below all have to be designed together. We work that out before we dig.

Why Winnipeg Homeowners Choose Genesis for Raised Decks

Footings Below Frost

Every post lands on a footing set below the frost line. This is the single most important thing about a raised deck in Manitoba, and it is the thing most often cut short to save a day.

Framed for Snow Load

Joist spans, beam sizing and post spacing are calculated to carry full Manitoba snow load, not a generic span table. A raised deck holds snow all winter and has to be built for it.

Ledger Flashed Properly

Where the deck meets your house, we flash and detail the ledger so water sheds away from the wall. Done wrong, this is where a deck rots the structure it is bolted to.

Permits Handled

Raised decks need municipal building permits. We prepare the drawings, pull the permit and meet the inspector, so the approval is our job rather than yours.

Owner on Every Site

Tyler is on every project. The person who worked out your footing depth and stair layout is on site while the frame goes up.

No rushed timelines

Our warranty covers the build: footings, framing, ledger connection, fasteners, stairs and guards. Decking and railing products carry their own manufacturer warranties, and we register those for you.

How a Raised Deck Is Built

Two halves to every raised deck. The frame that carries it, and everything you actually touch.

Footings, Beams and Framing

The frame is the deck. Footings sized to the load and set below frost, posts anchored rather than buried, beams and joists spanned to carry snow, and a ledger bolted and flashed to shed water away from your wall.

Decking, Guards and Stairs

Height brings requirements. Guards are code once you are more than two feet up, and the stair run needs real space to land properly. Composite decking makes the most sense on a raised deck, because the surface is the hardest part to maintain once it is off the ground.

How We Build a Raised Deck

A raised deck is an engineered structure attached to your home, so the order of operations matters. Here is how a Genesis deck comes together.

Free Quote

You call or submit a form with your project scope and location. Tyler or a team member responds within one business day with questions and preliminary guidance. If it sounds like a fit, we move to a site visit.

Site Visit & Design

Tyler visits the site, assesses your grade, how the deck connects to your home, and access. He takes precise measurements and photographs, and layout, levels, materials and railing options are discussed in person with samples available.

Proposal, Permitting, & Scheduling

A detailed line-item proposal covers all labour, materials, framing, decking, railings and any permit fees, with a layout plan included. Once approved, we handle the required municipal building permits, lock in a confirmed start date, and order materials.

Footings & Framing

The most important phase. We set footings below the frost line, frame the structure to carry full Manitoba snow load, and detail every ledger, flashing and connection so the deck stays solid and dry for years.

Decking, Railings, & Final Walkthrough

Decking boards are laid and fastened cleanly, railings and stairs are completed to code, and the build is finished to a high standard. Tyler then walks the completed deck with you, explains the warranty, and provides care guidance before the project is closed.

What Winnipeg Homeowners Say

Raised Decks Across Winnipeg and Surrounding Communities

Genesis serves Winnipeg homeowners city-wide and across the north-corridor suburbs. Below are the primary communities where we regularly design and build raised decks, for both residential and commercial properties.

Common Questions About Working With Genesis

Most deck projects range from $20,000 to $100,000+, depending on size, material, height, railings, and whether it is part of a larger outdoor living build. Raised decks sit higher in that range than ground level platforms because of the footings, framing and guards. We provide free ballpark estimates by phone or email when you can share your scope, and final pricing always requires an on-site visit.
Yes, raised decks require a municipal building permit. We prepare the drawings, pull the permit and meet the inspector as part of the project, so it is not something you have to manage.
Below the frost line, which in Manitoba is considerably deeper than most homeowners expect. Footing depth is set for your specific site and load, and it is the one thing we will never shorten.
It covers our build: footings, framing, ledger connection, fasteners, stairs and guards. Decking and railing products carry their own manufacturer warranties from Trex, Deckorators and TruNorth, which we register and hand to you at closeout.
