Privacy Screen and Trellis Installation in Winnipeg

A fence marks your property line. A privacy screen blocks the one sightline that actually bothers you, which on most Winnipeg lots is a second storey window looking straight down at your patio.

Six Feet of Fence Does Not Solve a Second Storey Window

Lots in newer Winnipeg developments are narrow and the houses are tall. You can build the maximum height fence the City allows and still sit on your patio looking up at a neighbour’s bedroom window looking back. The fence was never the wrong answer. It just solves a different problem, because a property line runs the whole perimeter while a sightline comes from one direction.
A privacy screen works because it is placed rather than run. We stand where you actually sit, look at what you actually see, and put the screen in the path between the two. That is usually a single panel or two, not a wall around the yard, and because it is targeted it can be taller and better detailed than a fence for far less money.
The mistake we get called to fix is a screen bolted to deck boards. A tall slat panel is a sail, and prairie wind will find it. Anything we build gets carried by posts on real footings, or by framing that was designed to take the load from the start. That is the difference between a screen that is still square in year eight and one that racks after two winters.

Why Winnipeg Homeowners Choose Genesis for Privacy Screens

Placed, Not Just Built

We sit where you sit before we decide anything. One well positioned panel usually beats three badly positioned ones, and it costs a fraction of fencing the whole yard.

Anchored on Real Footings

Screens are carried by posts set below frost depth or by framing built for the load. Nothing we install is fastened to deck boards and hoped for.

Built for Prairie Wind

A solid panel catches wind like a sail. Slat spacing, panel width and post size are chosen together so the screen lets air through where it needs to and still blocks the view.

Detailed Because You See It Closely

A screen sits at arm's length from where you sit, so the joinery shows. Cap rails, consistent reveals and hidden fasteners are standard, not an upgrade.

Owner on Every Site

Tyler is on every project. The person who stood on your patio working out the sightline is on site while the screen goes up.

No rushed timelines

Our warranty covers the build: footings, posts, framing, fastening and alignment. Cedar weathers and moves, and we explain exactly how it will behave before you buy.

Screens, Trellis and How They Are Built

The style decides how it looks. The anchoring decides how long it looks that way.

Slat Screens, Lattice and Trellis

Horizontal cedar slats are the current standard and suit modern Winnipeg homes. Lattice reads softer and traditional. A trellis does the same job with plants doing half the work, which takes a season or two but ages beautifully.

Posts, Footings and Wind

Everything comes back to what holds it up. Posts set below frost in concrete where the screen stands on grade, or upsized framing and blocking where it rises off a deck. Slat gaps are sized to bleed wind pressure without opening the view.

One window ruining an otherwise good patio?

Book a site visit and Tyler will sit where you sit, work out exactly what needs blocking, and price the smallest thing that solves it.

How We Build a Privacy Screen

Getting the position right is most of the job, and it takes ten minutes on site. Here is how a Genesis screen comes together.

Free Quote

You call or submit a form with your project scope and location. Tyler or a team member responds within one business day with questions and preliminary guidance. If it sounds like a fit, we move to a site visit.

Site Visit & Sightline Check

Tyler sits or stands exactly where you use the space and works out what needs blocking and from which angle. Height, width and position are marked on site, and style, wood and slat spacing are discussed with samples available.

Proposal, Permitting, & Scheduling

A detailed line-item proposal covers labour, posts, lumber and hardware, with a drawing showing position and dimensions. Once approved, we lock in a confirmed start date and order materials.

Footings and Posts

Utility locates are called before anything is dug. Post holes are bored below frost depth and set in concrete, or deck framing is opened up and reinforced where the screen will be carried by the structure.

Panels, Detailing & Final Walkthrough

Slats or panels are fitted to consistent reveals, cap rails and trim completed, and the site cleared. Tyler walks it with you from your seat, not from the lawn, so you can confirm it actually solves what it was built to solve.

What Winnipeg Homeowners Say

Privacy Screens Across Winnipeg and Surrounding Communities

Genesis serves Winnipeg homeowners city-wide and across the north-corridor suburbs. Below are the primary communities where we regularly design and build privacy screens and trellis, for both residential and commercial properties.

Common Questions About Working With Genesis

Screens are priced per panel rather than by the linear foot, so a single well placed panel is a small project and a run of four is a considerable one. Cost moves with height, wood, slat detailing and whether posts need new footings. Because a screen solves one sightline instead of enclosing a yard, it is almost always the cheaper answer than more fencing. Final pricing requires an on-site visit.
Often yes, because height rules that apply to boundary fencing do not always apply the same way to a freestanding screen set inside your yard or built onto a deck. We confirm what applies to your property at the site visit before anything is ordered.
If it stands on grade, yes, below frost depth and in concrete. If it rises off a deck, the deck framing has to be opened up and reinforced to carry it. A tall panel fastened to deck boards alone will not last a Winnipeg winter.
It covers our build: footings, posts, framing, fastening and alignment. Cedar is a natural material that will weather, grey and move slightly with the seasons, and that normal behaviour is explained to you rather than hidden in the fine print.
