Pathway and Walkway Lighting in Winnipeg

In Winnipeg the yard is dark by half past four in December. Lighting decides whether your walkway is usable eight months of the year or just something you look at in July. We run the wire before the pavers go down, so the system is invisible and the light lands where you actually walk.

Lighting Planned With the Hardscape, Not Added After It

Most walkway lighting in Winnipeg is retrofitted. Someone decides they want light two years after the walkway was built, so the wire gets buried in a shallow trench beside the pavers, the fixtures get pushed into soft ground, and by the second spring half of them are leaning and one has been clipped by a shovel. The light works, but the install always looks like an afterthought because it was one.
We build walkways, so we plan the lighting while the base is still open. Conduit sleeves go in under the paving before a single stone is laid. Wire runs inside those sleeves rather than under sod. Fixture positions get set against the actual paver layout, so lights line up with the pattern instead of fighting it. Nothing is visible in daylight except the fixtures themselves.
Light placement matters as much as the hardware. Path lights spaced too closely turn a walkway into an airport runway. Spaced correctly, with the right beam spread and the right mounting height, you get pools of light that overlap gently and show you the edge of the step without glaring into your eyes. That spacing is a design decision, and we make it on site with you.

Why Winnipeg Homeowners Choose Genesis for Walkway Lighting

Sleeves Before the Pavers

Conduit runs under the walkway while the base is still open. That means no cut pavers later, no trenching across a finished lawn, and room to pull new wire years from now without touching the surface.

Certified in Outdoor Lighting

Tyler holds an Inlite outdoor lighting certificate alongside his CMHA and Belgard credentials. Fixture selection, transformer sizing and voltage drop are calculated, which is why the last fixture on a run is as bright as the first.

Low Voltage, Safe Around the Yard

These systems run at 12 volts from a transformer, not household current. Safe to work around with kids and pets, and safe to dig near later if you add a bed or a tree.

Built for a Winnipeg Winter

Fixtures get set clear of snow clearing paths where possible, and mounted so frost movement does not push them out of line. We plan the layout around how you actually clear the walk.

Owner on Every Site

Tyler is on every project. The person deciding where each fixture sits is the same person who designed the walkway it belongs to, so the lighting follows the build instead of guessing at it.

No rushed timelines

Our warranty covers the installation: the sleeves, the wire runs, the connections and the fixture setting. Fixtures carry their own manufacturer warranty, and we tell you which covers what before you spend a dollar.

Fixtures and Systems We Install

Every lighting job has two halves. The half you see, and the half that decides whether it still works in five years.

Path, Step and Wall Lights

Path lights carry the walkway. Step lights and recessed wall lights handle stairs and retaining walls, where a post fixture would be in the way. We use solid brass and cast fixtures because plastic housings do not survive many Winnipeg freeze and thaw cycles.

Transformer, Wire and Sleeves

The hidden half is what separates a system that lasts from one that fails. Transformer sized to the load with headroom to expand, wire gauge chosen to control voltage drop across the run, and sealed connections rather than twisted caps in a buried box.

How We Install Walkway Lighting

The order of operations is the whole job. Here is how a Genesis lighting project runs from your first call to the night we hand it over.

Free Quote

You call or send a form with your project scope and location. Tyler or a team member responds within one business day with questions and preliminary guidance. If it sounds like a fit, we book a site visit.

Site Visit & Design

Tyler walks the property with you, ideally once in daylight and once after dark. He looks at your grade, your entry route, where the steps are and where you clear snow. Fixture positions, beam spread and transformer location are decided on site, with samples available.

Proposal, Permitting, & Scheduling

A detailed line-item proposal covers labour, fixtures, transformer, wire, sleeves and any hardscape work, with a layout plan included. Once approved, we lock in a confirmed start date and order materials.

Sleeves, Wire and Transformer

The most important phase. Conduit sleeves go in across the walkway while the base is still open, wire runs are pulled and buried at depth, and the transformer is mounted and sized to the load with room left for future zones.

Aiming & Final Walkthrough

Fixtures are set, then aimed after dark, because that is the only time you can see what a beam is actually doing. We set the timer, walk the finished system with you, explain the warranty, and show you where every run and sleeve sits before the project is closed.

What Winnipeg Homeowners Say

Walkway Lighting Across Winnipeg and Surrounding Communities

Genesis serves Winnipeg homeowners city-wide and across the north-corridor suburbs. Below are the primary communities where we regularly design and install outdoor lighting, for both residential and commercial properties.

Common Questions About Working With Genesis

Most lighting packages are priced by fixture count plus the transformer, wire and sleeve work behind them, so cost moves with the length of the run and the number of steps or walls involved. Lighting added during a hardscape build costs noticeably less than the same system retrofitted later, because the sleeves and trenching are already open. We provide free ballpark estimates by phone or email once you can share your scope, and final pricing always requires an on-site visit.
Yes, though the wire has to route around the paving instead of under it. It works well when planting beds run alongside the walk. It is harder and more invasive when the walkway is surrounded by lawn on both sides, and we will tell you honestly at the site visit which situation you are in.
It covers our installation: the conduit sleeves, buried wire runs, connections, transformer mounting and fixture setting. Fixtures and transformers carry their own manufacturer warranties, which we register and hand to you at closeout so you know exactly who covers what.
Yes. Your proposal includes a layout plan showing fixture positions, run routing and transformer location, so you can see the system before anything is buried. For larger projects we also produce 3D renderings of the finished property.
Yes. Genesis holds City of Winnipeg business licence 838851384 and carries an A rating with the Better Business Bureau. Tyler is a CMHA Certified Installer (formerly ICPI), a Belgard Authorized Installer, and holds an Inlite outdoor lighting certificate. We are members of the Manitoba Nursery Landscape Association.
