Garden Bed Installation Winnipeg

Garden beds excavated, shaped, edged and finished properly, built into the design alongside your patio and grading. Clean lines that hold, soil that drains, and a finish that stays put.

The Bed Is the Job, Not the Border

Bed lines are what give a yard its shape. They separate lawn from planting, frame the patio, soften hard edges and pull the whole property into one design. Get them right and a yard looks intentional. Get them wrong and it looks like flowers were added around the edges of whatever was left over.
Most beds in Winnipeg fail for the same three reasons. They were cut into existing lawn instead of excavated, so grass creeps back in within two seasons. They were built on untouched Red River clay, so water sits and roots never establish. And they were finished with fabric under mulch, which does nothing for weeds after year one and blocks the organic matter that soil actually needs.
We build beds as part of the wider landscape project. That means the bed depth, the grade, the drainage and the edging are decided at the same time as the patio and the hardscape, not after. Soil is amended for clay, edging is installed to hold a crisp line for years, and the finish is chosen for the situation rather than by habit. Tyler Abraham is on site at every project. No subcontractors. No shortcuts.

Why Winnipeg Homeowners Choose Genesis for Garden Beds

Beds Excavated, Not Cut

We strip and excavate the bed area rather than slicing a shape out of the lawn. That removes the grass and roots that otherwise creep straight back through your edging, and it gives us the depth to build soil properly underneath.

Edging That Holds the Line

A bed is only as good as the edge holding it. We install edging suited to the situation, from paving stone borders that match your patio to buried steel and aluminum, so the line you approve is the line you still have in five years.

Soil Built for Clay

Red River clay compacts hard and holds water. We amend soil for drainage and structure so roots can establish, and set the bed grade so water moves through rather than sitting and rotting what you planted.

Honest Advice on Fabric

We use landscape fabric under decorative rock, where it earns its place. We generally do not put it under mulch, because within two seasons weeds seed in the mulch above it anyway and the fabric only stops your soil from improving. Most contractors will not tell you that.

Owner on Every Site

Tyler Abraham is not a project manager in an office. He is physically on site at every project, setting bed lines by eye against the patio, the house and the sight lines. Bed shape is a design decision, not a measurement.

No rushed timelines

We do not double-book crews or chase volume. Each project gets the full team's attention. If your timeline is unrealistic, Tyler will tell you and decline the work rather than compromise the result.

How We Build Garden Beds

Two decisions shape every bed: the line and edge that hold it, and what goes in and on top of it. Both are made alongside the patio and hardscape design.

Bed Lines, Shaping and Edging

Bed lines are laid out on site against the house, patio and sight lines, then excavated to depth and shaped. Edging is selected for how the bed meets its surroundings, whether that is a paving stone border tying into your patio or a clean buried edge against lawn.

Soil, Drainage and Mulch or Rock

Soil amended for clay ground so roots establish, drainage set so water moves away, and a finish chosen for the bed rather than by default. Mulch feeds the soil and suits planting beds. Decorative rock lasts far longer and suits low-planting and foundation beds.

Mulch or rock, and where should the bed lines go?

During the consultation, Tyler will lay out the bed lines on site so you can see them in place, and walk you through mulch versus rock for each bed based on what is planted there and how much upkeep you want. We bring samples to every site visit.

How We Install Garden Beds in Winnipeg

Most homeowners researching a $50K to $100K outdoor project cannot find a contractor who answers all three questions: Are they real? Can I see their work? Will they stand behind it? Here is exactly how a Genesis landscape build runs, step by step.

You call or submit a form with your project scope and location. Tyler or a team member responds within one business day with questions and preliminary guidance. If it sounds like a fit, we move to a site visit.

Site Visit & Design

Tyler visits the site, assesses your grade, drainage, exposure and how the yard is used. He takes precise measurements and photographs, and bed lines, edging type and mulch or rock finish are discussed in person with samples available.

Proposal, Permitting, & Scheduling

A detailed line-item proposal covers all labour, soil, edging, fabric, mulch or rock and plant material, with a layout plan included. Once approved, we lock in a confirmed start date and order materials.

Layout, Excavation & Edging

Bed lines are marked out on site for you to see and approve before anything is dug. The beds are then excavated to depth, grass and roots removed, grade and drainage set, and the edging installed to hold the line.

Soil, Planting, Finish & Final Walkthrough

Amended soil goes in, planting is set at proper depth, and the bed is finished with mulch or decorative rock over fabric where suitable. Tyler then walks the finished beds with you, explains the warranty, and provides the watering and care guidance before the project is closed.

What Winnipeg Homeowners Say

Garden Beds Across Winnipeg and Surrounding Communities

Genesis serves Winnipeg homeowners city-wide and across the north-corridor suburbs. Below are the primary communities where we regularly design and build garden beds as part of complete landscape projects.

Common Questions About Working With Genesis

Beds are priced by total area, how much excavation and soil the site needs, the edging selected, and the mulch or rock finish. Plant material is quoted separately based on what goes in. We build beds as part of complete landscape projects, so it is quoted within the full scope and final pricing requires an on-site visit.
Mulch breaks down and feeds the soil, which suits beds with real planting in them. Rock lasts far longer and suits foundation beds and low-planting areas. Most properties end up with both, used where each one makes sense.
Under rock, it helps. Under mulch, it stops working once the mulch breaks down and weeds seed into the layer above it, and it blocks organic matter from reaching your soil. We use it where it earns its place and skip it where it does not.
No. Beds are built as part of complete landscape and hardscape projects, where the grading, drainage, bed lines and hard surfaces are designed together. We do not take on bed or soil-only jobs.
No. Genesis installs, we do not provide ongoing garden maintenance, weeding or mulch top-ups. We give you care guidance at the walkthrough so you or your maintenance company can look after it properly.
