Wood Fence Installation in Winnipeg

A fence is a row of posts holding boards. In Winnipeg clay, the posts are the entire job, so we set them below frost depth in concrete and your fence is still standing straight in year ten.

Posts Set for Clay, Frost and Prairie Wind

Drive through any established Winnipeg neighbourhood and you can read the fences like a report card. The ones leaning at the corners had posts set too shallow. The ones with a wave running down the top rail were built on a hot day with no allowance for what clay does when it dries. The boards on those fences are usually fine. It was never the boards.
Red River clay swells when wet and shrinks when dry, and it moves a post sideways as readily as it lifts one. Add frost that reaches deeper than most homeowners expect, and a post hole that would be perfectly adequate in another province simply is not here. We set posts below frost depth, in concrete, at spacing calculated for the board height and the wind a solid panel has to take.
The other half of the job is the part people argue with their neighbours about. Where the property line actually runs, how tall the City allows a fence to be, and whether that height changes between your front yard and your back. We confirm all of it at the site visit, before anything is ordered and long before anything is dug.

Why Winnipeg Homeowners Choose Genesis for Wood Fencing

Posts Below Frost

Every post is set below frost depth in concrete. This is the difference between a fence that stands straight in year ten and one that starts leaning in year three.

Built for Clay Movement

Post spacing, depth and concrete volume are set for Red River clay, not a generic spec. Clay moves sideways as well as up, and the post schedule accounts for both.

Line and Height Confirmed First

We confirm the property line and the allowable height for your yard at the site visit. City of Winnipeg limits differ between front and rear yards, and getting it wrong means taking it down.

Straight Lines Over Uneven Ground

Winnipeg yards are rarely flat. We step or rack the fence to follow grade cleanly instead of leaving gaps at the bottom or a wandering top rail.

Owner on Every Site

Tyler is on every project. The person who walked your line and set your post depth is on site while the fence goes up.

No rushed timelines

Our warranty covers the build: post setting, framing, fastening and alignment. Wood is a natural material that weathers and moves, and we explain exactly what that means before you buy.

How a Wood Fence Is Built

Two halves to every fence. The half in the ground that decides how long it lasts, and the half you look at.

Posts, Depth and Spacing

The post schedule is the engineering. Holes bored below frost depth, posts set plumb in concrete with the right volume for the load, and spacing tightened where a solid panel catches more wind. Corners and gate posts are treated differently because they carry far more.

Cedar, Pressure Treated and Board Styles

Cedar is the premium choice. It sits straighter over time, weathers to a silver grey if you leave it, and takes stain well if you do not. Pressure treated costs less and performs honestly, provided it is fastened properly and given time to dry before any finish goes on.

Replacing a fence that has started to lean?

Most fence failures start underground. Book a site visit and we will tell you honestly whether it is a repair or a rebuild.

How We Install a Wood Fence

Most of what goes wrong with a fence is decided before the first board is cut. Here is how a Genesis fence comes together.

You call or submit a form with your project scope and location. Tyler or a team member responds within one business day with questions and preliminary guidance. If it sounds like a fit, we move to a site visit.

Site Visit & Line Walk

Tyler walks the line with you, confirms the property boundary, checks grade changes and access, and reviews allowable height for your yard. Style, wood, gate locations and finish are discussed in person with samples available.

Proposal, Permitting, & Scheduling

A detailed line-item proposal covers labour, posts, lumber, hardware and gates, with a layout showing the run and gate positions. Once approved, we lock in a confirmed start date and order materials.

Locates, Post Holes and Setting

Utility locates are called before anything is dug. Holes are bored below frost depth, posts set plumb in concrete, and the line strung and checked end to end before anything is fastened to them.

Framing, Boards & Final Walkthrough

Rails and boards go on to the strung line, gates are hung and adjusted to swing true, and offcuts and spoil are cleared off site. Tyler walks the finished fence with you, explains the warranty and how the wood will behave over its first year.

What Winnipeg Homeowners Say

Wood Fencing Across Winnipeg and Surrounding Communities

Genesis serves Winnipeg homeowners city-wide and across the north-corridor suburbs. Below are the primary communities where we regularly design and build fences, for both residential and commercial properties.

Common Questions About Working With Genesis

Fencing is priced by the linear foot, so cost moves with the length of the run, the height, the wood you choose and how many gates you need. Cedar sits above pressure treated, and corners, grade changes and hard digging all add to it. We provide free ballpark estimates by phone or email once you can share your run length, and final pricing always requires an on-site visit.
Cedar stays straighter, looks better as it ages and is the premium choice. Pressure treated costs noticeably less and does the job well when it is built properly. We will show you both at the site visit and tell you honestly which suits your budget and your run.
Below the frost line, which in Manitoba is deeper than most homeowners expect, and set in concrete rather than tamped soil. Post depth is the one thing that decides whether a fence is still straight in ten years.
It covers our build: post setting, framing, fastening, alignment and gate hardware. Wood is a natural material that will weather, grey and move slightly with the seasons, and that normal behaviour is explained to you rather than hidden in the fine print.
