Paver Walkway Installation in Winnipeg

The builder gave you a three foot concrete strip to the front door. It is the first thing every visitor walks on, the last thing anyone notices, and the cheapest part of the house to make look expensive.

Width Is What People Feel, Even If They Never Name It

Almost every front walk in a new Winnipeg development is the same three foot strip. It is wide enough for one person, which means two people arriving together walk in single file, and someone carrying groceries turns sideways at the door. Nobody ever says the walk is too narrow. They just feel that the approach to the house is tight, and they blame the house.
Take that same walk to four and a half or five feet and the whole front of the property changes. Two people walk side by side. The proportions suddenly match the size of the house instead of fighting it. Add a soldier course down both edges and a landing at the door large enough to actually stand on, and a walkway stops being a utility and starts being the first thing the property says about itself.
The build under it is the same discipline as a patio, with one extra demand. A front walk gets shovelled a hundred times a winter and takes a scraping steel blade every time. That means the edge restraint has to be properly set, the joints have to be locked with polymeric sand, and the surface has to be dead flat so a shovel does not catch a lip. Those are details you only appreciate in February.

Why Winnipeg Homeowners Choose Genesis for Paver Walkways

Built Wide Enough to Matter

We size the walk to the house and to how you use it, not to the builder's three foot default. On most front approaches that means four and a half to five feet, and it is the single change that makes the biggest difference.

A Landing That Works in Winter

The pad at your front door gets a real landing, deep enough to stand on with the storm door swinging and your hands full. Most builder walks stop short of this and you feel it every single day.

Flat Enough to Shovel

Surface is laid dead flat with no lipping between stones, so a steel shovel blade runs over it instead of catching. A walk that fights you in winter is a walk you resent by January.

Base Cut Deep for Clay

Walkways heave for the same reason patios do, and the fix is the same. Excavation to depth, base compacted in layers, and the soft backfill strip near the foundation rebuilt rather than built over.

Owner on Every Site

Tyler is on every project. The person who set the width and the grade is standing there while the base goes in.

No rushed timelines

Our warranty covers the build: excavation, base, bedding, laying, cutting, edge restraint and jointing. Paving stones carry their own manufacturer warranty, which we register for you.

Stones, Width and the Details That Show

A walkway is narrow, so every edge and every cut sits right in front of you. There is nowhere to hide.

Barkman, Belgard and Techo-Bloc

Barkman is made here in Manitoba and goes into most of our installs, which matters more on a walkway than anywhere else because a replacement years from now has to match. Smaller format stones suit the scale of a walk better than large slabs in most cases.

Width, Landing and Grade

The decisions that make a walkway good are made before any stone is chosen. How wide, where it curves, how big the landing is, and how the fall is set so water leaves the walk instead of sitting on it and freezing.

How We Build a Paver Walkway

A walkway is a small project with no margin for error, because every line runs straight past the viewer. Here is how a Genesis walkway comes together.

Free Quote

You call or submit a form with your project scope and location. Tyler or a team member responds within one business day with questions and preliminary guidance. If it sounds like a fit, we move to a site visit.

Site Visit & Layout

Tyler walks the approach with you, checks the grade from the street to the door, and lays the proposed width and curve out on the ground with marking paint so you can see it at full size before deciding. Stone, pattern and border options are discussed with samples available.

Proposal, Permitting, & Scheduling

A detailed line-item proposal covers excavation, base, materials, labour and disposal of the old walk, with the width and excavation depth stated in writing. Once approved, we lock in a confirmed start date and order materials.

Removal, Excavation and Base

Utility locates are called first. The existing concrete is broken out and hauled away, we excavate to depth, and the base goes in compacted in layers with the backfill strip near the foundation rebuilt.

Laying, Cutting & Final Walkthrough

Stones are laid to the pattern with a soldier course run down both edges, every cut made clean, edges locked with restraint and joints filled with polymeric sand. The walk is compacted, swept and washed. Tyler walks it with you and explains the warranty.

What Winnipeg Homeowners Say

Paver Walkways Across Winnipeg and Surrounding Communities

Genesis serves Winnipeg homeowners city-wide and across the north-corridor suburbs. Below are the primary communities where we regularly design and build paver walkways, for both residential and commercial properties.

Common Questions About Working With Genesis

Walkways are priced by the square foot, so the two things that move the number most are width and length. Removing an existing concrete walk, curves that require more cutting, and steps or landings all add to it. Because a front walk is small compared to a patio, it is often the most affordable way to change how the whole property reads. Final pricing requires an on-site visit.
Wider than the builder gave you. Three feet is one person wide. Four and a half to five feet lets two people walk together and suits the scale of most Winnipeg homes. We mark the proposed width on the ground at the site visit so you can stand on it before deciding.
Not if the base is right. Heaving comes from a shallow base over clay or water sitting on the surface and freezing, and both are solved during excavation and grading. A paver walk also has an advantage over concrete here, because individual stones can be lifted and relaid if anything ever moves.
It covers our build: excavation, base preparation, bedding, laying, cutting, edge restraint and jointing. Paving stones carry their own manufacturer warranty from Barkman, Belgard or Techo-Bloc, which we register and hand to you at closeout.
